The Event Most Know Nothing About

Each year there are a few major sporting events that take place that the world tunes in to and does not miss. Events such as the Super Bowl, NBA All-Star Weekend, Final Four and NFL Pro Bowl just to name a few. But there is one sporting event that most Americans do not know anything about and may be one of the most star-studded events on the east coast.

In 1912 the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) was created and is now the oldest African American athletic conference in the nation. In 2012 the CIAA is celebrating their 100th year anniversary as a conference. In 1946 the CIAA held its first CIAA Basketball Tournament.  Since that time the CIAA tournament has became one of the biggest events on the east coast.  This has become a week long event filled with fan experience events, step shows, career expo, parties, and of course basketball. Weather you go for the games, events or the parties it is something for everyone to enjoy.

A few cities have been the host for the CIAA Tournament, such as Washington D.C., Richmond, VA, Winston-Salem, NC, Raleigh, NC, and currently Charlotte, NC. In 2011 the CIAA drew a record crowd close to 200,00 people and created a $44.3 million revenue for the city of Charlotte. This year’s tournament should be no different and once again top last year’s numbers.

One of the main reasons the young crowd (18-30) come to this event is for the parties, step shows, comedy show and concerts. This year there are more parties and concerts than year’s past. Rick Ross, Wale, Waka Flocka, J. Cole and Meek Mill just to name a few people that will be in concert. The parties are even more star-studded, with artist such as Fabolous, T.I., Gucci Mane, Cubana Lust, Diddy, Jim Jones, Big Tigger and Big Daddy Kane are just a few entertainers that will host parties and events for CIAA 2012. For a list of all this year’s event visit CIAA Events.
